The CrossFit Open isn't just about competition; it's a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and growth. The Open is the perfect time to reflect, recalibrate, and set new goals.

The Open serves as a litmus test for our fitness, revealing strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Whether it's conquering a movement, achieving a personal best, or simply completing all the workouts, each athlete has their own victories to celebrate. However, the end of the Open doesn't mark the end of progress; rather, it's a springboard for what's to come.

Setting post-Open goals is essential for maintaining momentum and staying committed to the journey. Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Whether it's mastering double-unders, increasing strength, improving mobility, or tackling a new skill, clarity is key.

Goals should be realistic yet challenging, pushing you out of your comfort zone while remaining attainable with dedication and effort. It's about striking a balance between ambition and practicality, recognising both the potential for growth and the limitations of time and ability.

Goals shouldn't exist in isolation; they should compliment each other and align with broader aspirations. Whether it's aiming for a podium finish or simply becoming fitter and healthier - each goal contributes to your overarching story of personal development.

In addition to setting goals, it's crucial to establish a plan of action. This might involve seeking guidance from coaches, following structured programming, or incorporating supplementary training modalities. Consistency, commitment, and patience are essential virtues on the path to success.

Above all, setting post-Open goals is about embracing the journey, recognising that progress is nonlinear and setbacks are inevitable. It's about celebrating achievements, learning from failures, and persevering through challenges.

Michael Easter, in his book The Comfort Crisis, emphasizes that personal growth often requires embracing discomfort and stepping outside our comfort zones. He notes that "comfort is the enemy of progress and personal growth," suggesting that seeking constant comfort can lead to stagnation.Easter advocates for deliberately exposing ourselves to challenges, a concept known as "controlled adversity," which can lead to significant personal development and improved resilience.
By setting goals that push our boundaries and embracing discomfort, we can unlock our potential and lead more fulfilling lives.

When you front up at your first post-open workout will it be just another class - or will it be the first step of the next phase of your fitness journey?

Renew your focus, determination, and your vision of what lies ahead.
